How does acupuncture work? Acupuncture works by inserting fine, small needles on specific points on the body known as acupoints. These are located on channels known as meridians. These meridians encompass the whole body, from head to foot. Each acupoint on the body has a different function. As the needles are inserted into the acupoints it re-orders the Qi, removes blockages and balances the various energies of the body. Do the herbs taste bad? Yes, i'm afraid so. Remember the old saying that "bad tasting medicine is better for you", well it certainly holds truth in Chinese medicine. The taste depends upon the herbs prescribed and that depends upon the disorder the herbs are treating. How do I cook the herbs? Firstly, soaked the herbs in a ceramic bowel with 3 mugs of water and leave to soak for 20 minutes. Put all the contents of the bowl in a saucepan and boil for 3 minutes, then reduce the heat and simmer for approximately. 25-30minutes. Drain the fluid into a jug and repeat the whole process again. When finished, mix the fluids together and store in a fridge. This should give you 1 days supply. When needed reheat the liquid until slightly warm and consume. How do I take the herbs? The herbs are cooked and usually taken once in the morning and once in the evening. It's always best as a rule to drink the herbs slightly warm and in one go and have a sweet ready to take the bad taste away. Honey can also be added to the decoction to make it taste better. What's the difference between herbs and pills? Herbs are stronger than pills and so act quicker. They are usually prescribed for acute conditions. Pills are similar to herbs but are not as strong. They are usually prescribed for more chronic conditions or for those that cannot drink a herbal decoction or don't have the time to cook it. |
